It took four ballot initiatives and a sagging state economy for the issue of casino gambling to pass an Ohio vote by a margin of 53 percent For to 47 percent Against. Werth’s effort to prevent Issue 3’s passing was a hard-fought campaign that resulted in innovative, compelling arguments despite the extremely close loss. Our strategy was unique and hard-hitting in its resonance with Ohio voters. Our “Devious Plan” campaign took political activism to a new level, and our creative animation casting the out-of-state “fat cat” casino developers as villains capitalizing on our state’s misfortunes nearly won the day. In the final analysis, sometimes economic woe trumps public affairs brilliance, but we won’t let that stop us from being brilliant. |
