Insuring Ohio Futures to Hold 11 College Events as Part of Insurance Career Awareness Month

February 1, 2016

The insurance industry across America is facing a significant talent gap over the next decade. The baby boomers who have led the industry are retiring en masse and leaving this economic catalyst in need of its next generation of leadership.

To call attention to the opportunities in insurance, a collaborative of insurance carriers, trade associations and industry partners have launched the first National Insurance Careers Awareness Month to be held this month. The Insurance Industry Resource Council’s Insuring Ohio Futures program, which enjoys the strong support of Ohio Insurance Commissioner and Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, will leverage this increased national focus for a coordinated outreach on Ohio college campuses during the month.

Insuring Ohio Futures will hold 11 events on Ohio college campuses partnering with IIRC member companies and the colleges on a series of Campus Career Chats designed to highlight the opportunities and benefits of a career in insurance. Outreach is designed to:

  • Raise awareness among college students that insurance is a viable career option and that their skills are needed in the industry.
  • Attract students to the new Ohio insurance degree and certificate programs who have not yet declared a major (30 percent) or who are considering a change in their major (40 percent).
  • Engage students who are near graduation and encourage them to consider applying for insurance industry positions.
