Paul Werth Associates and National Safe Boating Council Win Coveted PRSA Bronze Anvil Award for “Wear It!” Campaign

July 22, 2014

COLUMBUS, Ohio (July 21, 2014) – Paul Werth Associates and the National Safe Boating Council have received a coveted 2014 Bronze Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for the best non-profit media relations campaign for the Wear It! campaign.

“Excellence in tactical skills and execution is critical in establishing our profession as an essential business function,” said Joe Cohen, APR, PRSA 2014 Chair. “The work of Paul Werth Associates and the National Safe Boating Council is very deserving of the Anvil’s mark of distinction.”

Sandra W. Harbrecht, Werth’s president and CEO, said it is an honor for the firm to be associated with the Wear It! campaign.

“The National Safe Boating Council continues to help prevent boating deaths and injuries nationwide through the campaign, and we are proud to be a part of those efforts,” Harbrecht said.

The National Safe Boating Council manages the Wear It! campaign, an annual informational grassroots initiative that educates boaters and the general public about the importance of wearing life jackets and following safe behavior while boating. Werth implemented a national public relations program on behalf of Wear It! to increase awareness of the campaign with boaters and the general public.

“It’s humbling to be recognized by such an esteemed association as PRSA for the Wear It! campaign,” said Rachel Johnson, CAE, executive director of the National Safe Boating Council. “We are confident this award will further our reach of this important life-saving message and showcase its many achievements.”

Wear It! was featured on CNBC, NBC Sports Network, The Weather Channel’s “Weekend Now” and “Weekend View,” WeatherBug and thousands of local media outlets across the country. Also, the campaign reached more boaters on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram than ever before, thanks to well-received tactics such as an infographic and public service announcement that Werth produced.

The Bronze Anvil Award was created by PRSA in 1969 and celebrates the best of the best in tactics for creativity, results and importance in strategic public relations. Of the 734 entries, only 52 organizations were selected as Bronze Anvil winners. This demonstrates the high standards applied by the judges in their evaluation process.
